Netflix: How to watch, what to watch and how much it costs.

You may have heard people talking about Netflix, what they are watching or what they are going to watch next.  But what is Netflix, how can you watch it and how much does it cost.  This is SwitchTV’s guide to everything you need to know about Netflix

What is Netflix?

Netflix is a streaming service. It allows you to watch TV programmes, films and documentaries via any internet connected device which has the Netflix app.

The content is ad free with some trailers for other Netflix shows. In addition you can download some programmes to watch offline.  Ideal for if you are travelling.  Netflix have lots of great award winning shows and also produce their own films and TV series “Netflix Originals”

How can I watch Netflix?

Once you have signed up you can watch Netflix through Smart TVs, games consoles, set top boxes, smartphones, tablets and laptops.

Most TVs or set top boxes will have the Netflix app pre-loaded.  Simply log in to your account on any of the devices mentioned and start to watch some great TV!

Increasingly Netflix is also being bundled with other TV providers or TV and broadband providers.

Is there a Netflix discount for students?

Unlike Amazon Prime Video Netflix do not offer a student discount. However they have confirmed that it is OK for students living away from home to use their parents log in.  Whilst you want them to be studying its good for them to have some entertainment!

What does Netflix and chill mean?

Well that’s awkward!  In popular parlance if someone was invited to Netflix and chill there would not be much TV being watched.  This is in fact a cheeky way of inviting someone over for sex. So beware of what kind of invitation you are accepting!

What to watch on Netflix?

Netflix add new programmes throughout each month.  They usually release programme details in advance and here at SwitchTV we write regular articles on what we would recommend.  Our latest guide can be found here.
