UFC in 2020 – what channel do I need to watch it?

UFC in 2020 is going to be big. Like Conor McGregor big! For various reasons, he’s spent some time out of UFC, but now he’s back and stepping up to Welterweight for his return to the Octagon, with a fight lined up with and then later this year the big rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

So who shows UFC in the UK?

The primary live TV rights are owned by BT Sport – UFC has been on BT Sport since 2013 and the organisations have formed quite a partnership, especially given the popularity of Conor McGregor. UFC did initially sign a deal to move to Eleven Sports back in 2018, but issues getting Eleven Sports available for Sky and BT customers meant the deal went back to BT. We understand a multi-year deal now exists between UFC and BT, most likely through to 2021.

UFC content is also available direct from them via a ‘Fight Pass’, where you pay either annually up front or on a monthly basis. You can watch on their website or via their app from the Apple Store or Google Play – but – and this is a big one – only pre-lim fights are live. Other fights are on the Fight Pass 48 hours after, or 30 days following a pay per view event. If you want to watch on the big screen you can then Chromecast this to your TV. So should I choose BT Sport or UFC Fight Pass?

If you want to watch the big fights live, then get BT Sport. You’ll also of course be able to watch other content carried by BT Sport such as boxing and rugby. It’s available on your big screen via BT TV, Sky, Virgin TV or by Chromecasting the BT Sport app.

If UFC is the only thing you’re interested in and you don’t mind watching a few days later on your tablet/computer or Chromecasting to your TV, then get a Fight Pass. Because the big fights aren’t on live, it’s much cheaper too – prices start around £6.99 per month.

Which fights are pay per view and how much does that cost?

BT Sport have started moving some of the biggest UFC fights to Pay Per View. This has been very controversial, as in the past all of UFC was included as part of the BT Sport subscription. Pricing is £19.99 and we understand that around 4 events per year will be PPV. You can buy PPV from BT in the weeks leading up to each fight, as well as purchase from UFC and watch it via their Fight Pass.

What other MMA sports are available?

If you buy the UFC Fight Pass, you can also watch the video libraries of over 30 other MMA/boxing/kickboxing/Muay Thai/Jiu Jitsu promotions including PRIDE FC, WEC, Strikeforce, and Invicta FC.
